

Son of Arthur and Catharine Franklin, he was born in Spokane, Washington on 27 July 1930. A graduate of Gonzaga University in Spokane, he earned his Masters of Divinity in 1955 at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL. Ordained as Deacon and Priest in 1955, Alden served as Assistant Priest, Vicar, and Headmaster in Episcopal churches in the states of Washington and California. For 27 years, he served faithfully with passion and humor as Assistant Priest, Interim Dean, and Canon Liturgist Emeritus at St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego.
Alden’s passions included music (especially works by Hayden), sailing, flying, traveling, reading, and the art of discussion. He is survived by family and friends who loved him and appreciated his intellect, sharp wit, and singular sense of humor.
The service will be held on Friday, November 3rd, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 2728 Sixth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103
