Bernadette Mary Wood

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the death of our mother Bernadette (Bernie) M. Wood. She is survived by her adult children Richard, Michael, and Kathleen Wood. Bernie is the grandparent of Eric Lindgenfelder, Jenny Gambs, and Michelle Roche. She is the great Grandparent of Alexis, Aubree, Kian, Callan, Sheridan, Elijah, Serphina, Mila, and Conrad.

Bernie was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 22nd 1933 to Arthur and Mary Kitchen. At a young age her family moved to Chula Vista. Her father was a master wood working on ships. Her mother Mary was a home maker. Bernie had one sister Joan Kitchen who is deceased.

Bernie graduated from Chula Vista High school in 1952. She married Roy Wood on February 15th 1953. Roy and Bernie had 3 Children. Richard Wood born October 12th 1955, Michael Wood born January 4th 1956, and Kathleen Wood born December 5th 1962.

Roy and Bernie were married for 54 years. Roy wood Passed away on March 15th 2007. Bernie and Roy had a strong marriage filled with travel, church involvement , and involvement in various community organizations.

Bernie was a long time member of the St Pius the X church. She was one of the first parishioners of this church. She was involved in teaching CCD. Curosillo, Shepard's Group, and Marriage Encounter.

Bernie, along with Roy, was involved in the Good Sam's club, Elks lodge in Chula Vista, as well as square dancing groups.

She loved to travel, camp, and stay socially active.

In October 2016 Bernie moved from the family home on Myra Avenue in Chula Vista to St Paul's Plaza in Chula Vista. She loved living in this community with lots of activities, friends and her own space to call home. She was living very independently up until a few weeks before her death. She died at home on September 2nd 2026 surrounded by her daughter Kathleen and son Richard.

Bernadette Wood's funeral services will be held at St. Pius the X Catholic Church 1120 Cuyamaca Ave, Chula Vista, CA 91911. There will be Rosery at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
