After completing one semester of college he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 16, 1943. His primary duty was repairing electrical circuits on seaplanes.
In 1965, after thirty years of service, he retired from the Navy and went on to a second career with Pacific Southwest Airlines. He retired from PSA, (now known as US Airways) in 1986.
Charles married Marjorie Carignan on July 30, 1950. They were blessed with five children, three boys, Daniel, David and Drew, and two girls, Donna and Deborah Lee. Marjorie passed away on August 11, 1993. Charles remarried Isabelle Varrin on February 25, 1995. Isabelle passed away on June 15, 2014.
Charles was a member of the Boy Scouts in which he attained the rank of Star Scout. His passion for the Boy Scouts was represented by serving more than thirteen years as a Scout Master, Scouting Coordinator, OA Vigil Scouter, Explorer Adviser and as a Summer Camp Staff Member and Adviser. He also served on the Catholic Committee on Scouting and other advisory boards and committees.
Other favorites pastimes included working at St. Rita's "Bingo" nights, and at the Spring Valley Community Center. Also, he was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus Men's Club and the Legion of Mary at St. Rita Catholic Church. Charles will be remembered for his great devotion to the Blessed Mother and to her Rosary.
Charles is survived by his five children, including his legacy of three grandchildren, Rita Ragsdill, Derek Dineen, and Meghan Dineen, and one great-grandchild, Cameron Ragsdill.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass beginning with a Rosary will be held on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church. His final resting place will be at Glen Abbey's Sleepy Hollow Mausoleum in Bonita, California. His family would like to extend an invitation to all his friends to attend the visitation and funeral services.
