Charles Thero Gay

Charles Thero Gay, age 81, of San Diego, California passed away on Monday October 29, 2018. Charles was born January 30, 1937 in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He was the youngest child among the eight children of William and Marvin Gay. Their home was lively and bustling with energy and love.

Charles attended the West Southern Pines Schools for his primary and secondary education. He graduated from West Southern Pines High School with the class of 1956. At the age of 25 Charles decided he would travel the world by joining the U.S. Navy. He made a career of it as a Photographer. He attained the rank of Chief during his 27 year tenure.

When stationed in Florida, Charles met his first wife, Loise Westly. They had one son together, Charles Terry Gay. After some years they divorced. Charles was stationed in the Philippines where he met and married Nena Garcia on August 26, 1991. Their marriage was blessed with 27 happy years.

Upon retirement Charles continued to enjoy photography as a hobby and also wood working .

He was a member of "Helping Hand C.O.G.I.C." (Church of God In Christ) of San Diego.

Charles is survived by his wife, Nena Gay, son Charles Terry Gay and brother Todd Gay.

A visitation for Charles will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m at Funeraria Del Angel Chula Vista, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 19, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910. A graveside with military honors will occur Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetary, 5795 Nobell Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
