Daniel Alvarez Salgado
Daniel A. Salgado, a long time resident of San Diego passed away on Saturday, December 8th at the age of 84 due to heart complications. He is survived by his loving wife Teodula S. Salgado and daughters: Yvonne Salgado, Sandra Mendez and Rosalinda Salgado. He is also survived by his sons: Rene and Sergio Salgado. He has four sisters: Socorro, Anita, Praxedes, and Conchita, and his brother Jorge. He has eight grandchildren: Marylou, Rene Jr., Anthony, Melissa, Benjamin, Danny, Eddie and Andy. Daniel was a devoted husband and father to all his children.
He was born on July 24, 1928 in La Piedad, Michoacan, Mexico to Filigonio Salgado and Luz Alvarez. His hardworking nature and his desire to pursue the American dream brought him to the United States as a teenager in the early 1940s. He told stories of his work on farms, fields and in hotels. However, he eventually enlisted and served the Unites States National Guard. He later went on to become a butcher. He lived in San Francisco, California and Portland, Oregon. He met his first wife and had three children: Rene, Sandra and Rosalinda. He also adopted a young boy named Sergio, who he raised as his own son. He relocated to San Diego, CA, where he worked at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for over 20 years and later at Grossmont Hospital. He took great pride in his hospital work as a head custodian. Following his divorce he met his second wife, Teodula, and in 1978 they married. In 1980, Yvonne, his youngest daughter was born and he decided to leave the hospitals all together and pursue his dream of having his own business and being his own boss. He had a furniture store in San Ysidro, CA for over 25 years and had a second furniture store in Tijuana, MX for approximately 10 years. He worked until the day he was hospitalized. It's ironic to think he died of a weak heart, because he was known to have the strongest, biggest, and kindest heart any man could have. He loved God, his family, his country, his work, animals, and history passionately. He loved to laugh and was constantly playing practical jokes on everyone. He didn’t believe in pity parties or taking anything too seriously. The only thing he seemed to take seriously was his role as a provider and protector. He will be missed terribly but we are certain he will continue to protect and watch over us from heaven until we meet again.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary @ 7:00 PM in the Serenity Chapel located at Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey: 753 Broadway, Chula Vista 91910.
