Dennis Lane, was born on May 16, 1938 in Spokane Washington to Gordon Walters and Peggy Schroeder, who preceded him in death. He graduated from West Valley High School in 1956 and went into the United States Navy.
While stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Illinois, Dennis met Barbara Jean Lane. They married on February 8, 1964 and were blessed with sixty-two years together.
During his 21-year naval career, from1956 to 1978, Dennis served aboard the USS Ticonderoga, where he participated in the recovery missions for Apollo XVI, Apollo XVII, and Skylab 2. He also completed a tour of duty off the coast of Vietnam.
Dennis earned two bachelor degrees, a Master's in Computer Science, and an MBA later in life from Chapman University in Orange, California. He worked for Chapman University from 1978 to 1998, mostly as the head of its Lifelong Learning Centers all over the country. Dennis ended his professional career as part-time instructor at Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
Dennis was a member of St Charles Parish for fifty-five years. He belonged to a few genealogical societies; some of his ancestors came over on the Mayflower. Dennis was an avid model railroader and was a life-long bowler with a "300 game" to his credit.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children Gary (May), Rita (Ivan), Kathy (Scott), and Roger (former spouse, Gina). He is also survived by grandchildren Chris (Pamela), Mike, Nico (Tamara), Kelsey (Jeryd), Ryan, Joseph, Eryn, and Angel, along with six great grandsons. Dennis is also survived by his only sister, Dana (Larry).
