Dolores Mae Ferland

Dolores Mae Ferland (Dee), daughter of Agnes Morin and Leo Laflamme was born in Sanford, Maine on August 14, 1935. She was the youngest of four children. She graduated from St. Ignatius Catholic High School in June of 1953. She met Darcy R. Ferland while on a double date and ended up falling in love and marrying him in September of 1953. They had three children, Diane (1955), Cindy (1957) and Steve (1961).

In 1962, Darcy and Dee decided to move to San Diego, California to seek better job opportunities since they were both losing their jobs in Sanford. They rented a large U-Haul trailer and put as much as they could into it, then sold everything else. They hooked it up to the family station wagon and took 3 days to travel across country via Route 66. Once they arrived in San Diego, they eventually found a house on Alene Street in Spring Valley, California which happened to be the same street that her two sisters lived on. Then in 1975, they decided to move to El Cajon, California to a larger home with a pool.

Dee worked at Solar Turbines for 28 years, starting out in data entry and ending as a materials analyst. She retired at age 55 (1990), and Darcy retired shortly thereafter. They made several memorable trips to Europe with family and friends.

Dee loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. She enjoyed taking them to the movies, playing with them in their pool, and setting up picnic lunches in front of the TV in the living room. Her second love was sewing. She joyfully accepted any project that was asked of her, and completed it to perfection. She made everything from Halloween costumes for the grandkids, to curtains for any room in our homes. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.

Dee is survived by her husband, Darcy R. Ferland and her sister Priscilla DeArman of Escondido, CA, and her brother-in-law Joseph Mancuso of Madison, Maine. Also survived by her daughter Diane Hadley (and husband Guy, grandsons Mike and Kyle) of Rancho Penasquitos, CA daughter Cindy Van Mouwerik (and Husband Sam, granddaughters Darcy and Dylan) of El Cajon, CA and son Steve (and wife Ann, grandson Matthew and granddaughter Stephanie), of Santee, CA.
