

Eleanor Macias Harris, 86, passed away surrounded by her children on November 20, 2014. She was born in San Diego on February 20, 1928 one of nine children to Julian and Genoveva Macias. Eleanor grew up in the Old Town area and attended Fremont Elementary and Memorial Jr. High Schools. She worked at various jobs while the most memorable jobs were with the old Convair and Ryan Aeronautical companies where she helped build aircrafts and retiring from Diving Unlimited where she made diving suits for Navy Seals and Hot Water Suits. Eleanor’s job with Diving Unlimited allowed her to do what she liked doing which was sewing. She also enjoyed her gardening, knitting, Mariachi music and definitely a good cold beer. While retired she adored spending time with her family and all the grandchildren. Eleanor and her late husband, Bill, enjoyed taking the grandchildren camping, especially across the border. After the passing of Bill, her constant companion was her little dog Lily. She was a devoted member of St. Charles Church in San Diego. Eleanor is survived by her five children: Caroline (Chris), Frances, Margaret, Sandra, and Gary; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Drosi, Mercy Bone (Joe); brother Milton Macias (Rosa); and many nephews and nieces.
Viewing will take place on Tuesday, November 25th, from 5-9pm at Del Angel Humphrey, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista. Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 26th, at 12:00pm at St. Charles Catholic Church, 990 Saturn Blvd San Diego (Imperial Beach), followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
