ARLENA'S TRIBUTE TO HER MOTHER
My name is Lena, I am the daughter of Elvira Torrente. Losing my Mother is one of the most painful thing I have gone through. As i am standing up here today. I can tell you that I was truly blessed to have a mother like her. I realize how very fortunate I was to have her in my life. There are not words to express her influence in my life. It is though the example that I have learned to be a compassionate and loving individual that I am today.
My mother was very kind and generous, and a hard working woman. One thing I can always say is that she had passion for the people she cared about. Not because of her profession as a nurse, but as a mother to myself and my four other siblings. Even though we would mess up, she still had the kindness and love in spite of us not listening sometimes.
I always remember when my best friend, Linda and I came home late from going out dancing. My father was so angry at us, that he told us that we would have to spend the night in my car. Of course, my other had no control over this , since my father was the head of the household. She did not try to change his mind. Even though we spent the night in the cold garage in my car. My loving mother came out and brought us one big blanket to share, and saying that she couldn't let us in the house until the next morning. At the time, I couldn't understand why such a punishment, but when I had my first child, I realize that it was a lesson learned.
My mother also befriended a lot of young women that she would mentor to. She would show love and compassion for them like they were her own daughters. If you are here today, you know how Mami was. She would give you food, money if you need it, and never it expected back, and advise. She truly believes that if you help someone in need, that the Lord would continue to bless you. But there is also the strict side of her. If you did something, she would definitely let you know. She would speak her mid. One thing, that stood out about my mother is she love God. She would always say Pray and Ask God to help you, and he will be there for you and he will answer your prayer.
My mother has show me strength and love in the midst of chaos and despair. But with her quiet and gentle spirit, I have learned to be more humble and hold back my words. She si the type of Mother anyone would love to have.
I hope one day, when my time is up in this world, my children can look back, and be able to tell stories about me, and talk about how i loved them. Then, like my Mother, I will have a blessed and complete life.
To my brothers, Mami told me to tell you that she loves you all, and just look up above because she will always be with you in Spirit.
I LOVE YOU MAMI, I THANK GOD FOR GIVING ME SUCH A LOVING, AND KIND MOTHER TO HAVE ON THIS EARTH.
