Emma Zepeda Landázuri

Emma Zepeda Landazuri, January 2, 1941 – April 10, 2019. Emma was born in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. She passed away on April 10, 2019 in Escondido, California. Emma is survived by sisters Dorothy L. Gonzales and Rosa L. Oriol, numerous nephews and nieces, son Tom Resendez and grandchildren Enrique and Victoria Emma Resendez. Emma was preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Catalina Landazuri; Sisters Maria Munoz, Manuelita Perez, Rafaela Landazuri and Matilda Casares. Emma loved all of her family and friends dearly and cherished the time she spent with them. She immigrated to the United States in 1943 along with her mother and sister Rosa. She enjoyed music and love to dance. Emma graduated from San Diego High School on May 29, 1959, the same year she became a US citizen. She worked as an Instructional Aide at National City Middle School and retired from the Sweetwater Union High School District with 27 years of service. Just prior to Emma’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis she was working towards a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential with the goal of teaching in her final working years. The recitation of the Rosary and funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church beginning at 9:30am on Friday, April 26, 2019. Location 410 W. 18th Street. National City, CA 91950. Interment will immediately follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102. A reception will follow at the Sweetwater Women’s Club, 3855 Sweetwater Road. Bonita, CA 91902. Special thanks to the people at Edward James Retirement Home, particularly Arceli Songco and staff for the kindness, dedication and compassionate care they extended to our beloved Emma.
