He grew up in San Diego, California and attended Montgomery High School (Class of 1982). He lived in Chula Vista, CA. for the remainder of his life.
Fernando spent almost 26 years with the love of his life, Gloria Contreras. He loved being a sign artist for Sea World -San Diego for over 33 years and he was also a proud employee of The Home Depot in Chula Vista, CA for over 20 years.
Fernando was very creative and loved working with his hands. He had many interests, including collecting vintage items, crafting things by hand, and took pride in his landscaping which won him a few association awards. Fernando was an avid walker around the Bonita Golf Course, and loved exploring hiking trails all over San Diego. His favorite spot was Rock House Trail, which he enjoyed frequently with his best buddy
Jason. Fernando especially loved long walks along the water in Imperial Beach with Gloria. Their beach strolls, to her dismay, always turned into miles and miles of walking. He always strived to live a healthy lifestyle.
Fernando was very energetic, full of life, and was very much a people person. You would never know that inside, he was actually very shy. Those who knew Fernando knew that he was incredibly loving, generous and always interested in learning. Most importantly, when you needed him, Fernando was always there for you!
Fernando is survived by his parents, Bertha and Fernando A. Marquez Sr., the love of his life, Gloria
Contreras, their daughter Karina Marquez, his step-daughters, Laryssa Contreras, Natalie Brickley (married to Mark Brickley), granddaughter Olivia Contreras, as well as his sister Patricia Vincent and niece Amanda Vincent.
He will also be missed by so many of his family, friends & coworkers.
