Hermogenes C. “Hermie” Gregorio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the age of 84 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Bacoor, in the province of Cavite, Philippines on April 19, 1934 to his late parents, Ignacio and Antonina (Calinisan) Gregorio.
Hermie was kind, caring, and funny. He loved ballroom dancing, bowling, karaoke, and family vacations. Hermie enjoyed fashion, and you could always expect to see him dressed to the nines. He was an active member of the Bay Terrace Filipino American Association and the Bacoor Association of San Diego, California.
Hermie left his home in the Philippines at the age of 21 to join the United States Navy in October of 1955. He served for 21 years. Hermie also worked for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and Sweetwater High School in National City. He went on to pursue a degree at National University in San Diego, where he earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology.
Hermie was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Janet I. Gregorio (Hale). They were married for 32 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna C. Gregorio (Concepcion) of San Diego, CA who selflessly cared for Hermie for 25 years. He is also survived by his daughters, Tina Marie Raymond and her husband Mark of San Diego, Tisha Leigh Estrella and her husband Joe of Parker, CO, and 7 grandchildren; Taasi, Tirena, Trey, Tomás, Tobias, Tiana, and Talia.
Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 20, 4-9 pm and Monday, January 21, 5-9 pm at Funeraria del Angel, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA. The vigil service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, January 21. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 11:30 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 2643 Homedale St., San Diego, CA. A full military honors and burial will occur Tuesday, January 22 at 1:30 pm at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA.
