

Hirsch and June met at a Jewish Single’s Dance in the 50’s in San Diego and spent the next 62 years together. After marrying in Florida on December 23, 1956 they lived in East San Diego and Banker’s Hill. They will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Park.
Son of David and Yetta Gottschalk of Chicago and daughter of Alvin and Betty Maurer of New York. Loving parents of four children: Renée-Lynn, Craig Phillip, David Mitchell, and Aaron Lee. Cherished grandparents to nine: Gurdevie, Naomi Becka, Camilla Celestine, Lynnly Yvette, Stefanie, Andrea, Natalia, Mori* and Meiwan. Dear great-grandparents to four: Janoah Celcius, Elivia Rose Helena, Julian June, and Eva.
Hirsch was a professor of mathematics and design engineer. June was a teacher and social worker. Both had a passion for life and living.

Lovers of navel oranges, matzo ball soup, and Sunday morning bagels with a good chew. Accomplished bridge partners. Lifelong learners. Passionate activists and advocates of education, racial justice, queer rights, and feminism.
Lovers of the opera, the symphony, and musical theater. Avid listeners of jazz and classical music. Enjoyed playing the piano together and with their (grand)children. Never missed a Shakespeare festival. Always had the best movie recommendations. Book club members who made sure their granddaughters read all the best sellers.
Their humor, generosity, interest and understanding will be greatly missed.
