On Wednesday, August 28th, JT Clay went to heaven to be with the Lord at the age of 92. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the oldest of 5 children. Two of his siblings preceded him in death, John Clay and Wanda Smith. He is survived by his other two siblings, La Dell Perdue and Jerrell Clay. Although he lived in San Diego County since he joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and met his wife of over 50 years, Kathryn, he never lost his Texas accent and charm.
After being widowed several years, JT married Jackie Nolley of Fort Worth, Texas. They divided their time between Chula Vista and Fort Worth. While in Fort Worth, they were able to spend time with Jackie's children - Sons, Terry Nolley, Tommy Nolley, and daughter Kathy Overstreet. Jackie passed away on 1/3/2015.
Tall and full of personality, JT was a big presence who showed kindness and love to everyone around him. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and the measure of love deserved by someone who was always thoughtful and loving to others.
He had a large family of 4 daughters and their husbands, Dianne Close (Linton Close), Janet Barrett (David Barrett), Linda Opdycke (Jeffrey Opdycke), and Gail Close (Jake Close), along with 6 grandkids and numerous great and great-great-grandkids. JT was a shining example of Christ's love and generosity for others, and accepted so many friends and neighbors as an extension of his already large family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A service for him will be held at Refinery Church, 494 E Street, Chula Vista, CA 91910, on Monday, September 9th. There will be a viewing period from 1 Oam-11 am, followed by a celebration of life from 11 am-1 pm.
Flowers can be sent to Funeraria Del Angel Chula Vista at 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910. Please include "JT Clay" as the recipient.
