Jimmy Arthur Thrasher passed away peacefully at his home on July 1, 2014 with his family by his side. Born December 12, 1923 to William Floyd Thrasher and Ester Naomi Phillips in Cedar Grove, West Virginia. Jimmy, better know as Swede to his friends will be laid to rest along with his wife of 60 years Mae Marie Thrasher at Miramar National Cemetery on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 at 12:30pm.
Jimmy, a retired MGySgt in the Marine Corps was the oldest and most senior Montford Point Marine alive. He was the First Black American excepted into the Marine Corps in 1943 in the city and state of Flint, Michigan followed with basic training at Montford Point, Camp Lejeune North Carolina, that only training camp for Black Americans from 1942-1947.
Jimmy is survived by his 7 children Saundra Gray, Doran Thrasher, Paula Muldrow, Erick Thrasher, Karen Cline, Kevin Thrasher and Scarlette"Thrasher" Wooten and 1 sister Myrtel Pea of Flint, Michigan ands many cousins, nieces and nephews.
