Juan M. Avitia, 98, of San Diego died Tuesday, Feb. 8th. He was born in Los Angeles and was a machine operator and warehouseman for the U.S. Navy Department for 33 years.
Miguel and his deceased wife Esther, were married for 61 years before her passing in 2007. Together they had six children, and raised grandson, Arthur II and granddaughter, Esther. Son Arthur preceded both in death in 1976. Miguel was always a hard worker and continued being active well beyond his retirement. He was a gun collector, whose hobbies were riding motorcycles and restoring antique cars.
Survivors include sons: Albert Avitia and Javier Avitia,, daughters:Yolanda Rocha, Elizabeth Mata and Danette Kintzele and sisters: Esther Park and Elvira Moreno; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
His viewing will be on Monday, Feb. 28th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista 91910.
His burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. please meet at Funeraria del Angel by 10:30 a.m. to join the procession to Holy Cross Cemetery, 4470 Hilltop Dr., San Diego 92102
