
Kimiko Ann Fukuda, age 71, died of cancer in San Diego, California, on May 5, 2016. She was born on April 15, 1945, to Manabu and Tomiko Fukuda in the Poston Relocation Center, Arizona. She grew up in Clovis, California, until age 10, and lived in Hyattsville, Maryland, where she graduated from Northwestern High School in 1963 and the University of Maryland in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
In 1975, Kimiko earned a Master of Arts in elementary education from San Diego State University and a Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California in 1984. She was hired by the San Diego Unified School District in 1967 as an elementary school teacher and retired as an Assistant Superintendent of Schools in 2003 after 36 years in education. Her career included service as a classroom teacher, district resource teacher, elementary school vice-principal, middle school principal, and culminated as an assistant superintendent.
Kimiko is survived by her husband Calvin Fujimura, her mother Tomiko Fukuda, sister Aileen Fukuda, brother Glen Fukuda and sister-in-law Diane Fukuda, nephew Jesse Fukuda, and niece Elise Fukuda.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Lisle Funeral Home, 1605 L Street, Fresno, CA 93721. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a cancer organization of your choice in memory of Kimiko Ann Fukuda.
