Leo was a long-time resident of San Diego County. He is survived by two sons, Alberto and Oscar Alvarez, and four daughters, Rosa Maria Gutierrez, Cynthia Costantino, Janina Alvarez and Laura Mendoza. They remember their father as a hard-working family man, whose life revolved around his work and family. His passion was working as a mechanic, first on airplanes and then automobiles. Later-in-life he became involved with the Import-Export business. His children fondly recall that regardless of how hard their dad worked during the week, Sundays were reserved for them. The Sunday ritual was for everyone to "dress-up" and go site-seeing, then stop for dinner before heading back home.
Leo was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Rosa Alvarez, and his son, Leo Alvarez. In addition to his six children, Leo leaves a legacy of thirty grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Leo's life will be celebrated with a visitation at Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. in the Serenity Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Humphrey. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita.
