Luz Mireya Muñoz, born in 1959 in Facatativá, Colombia, was the youngest child of Gonzalo Muñoz and Elvira Sáenz. She grew up alongside her siblings Gladys, Olga, Carmenza, Hernando, and Alvaro.
Luz immigrated to the United States, where she welcomed her two sons, Christian and Daniel, in New Jersey. She later moved her family to San Diego, where she would meet the love of her life, Fernando.
Their love story began, fittingly, with a dance. When Fernando asked Luz to dance, she replied, “Only if you know how to dance.” He did. The two danced the night away, beginning a love that would carry them through the years. They married in 2007.
Luz was also a welder, work that she genuinely loved. She took pride in working with her hands and in the skill and craftsmanship of her trade. It was an important part of who she was: hardworking, capable, and unafraid of difficult work.
Dancing remained one of Luz’s great joys. She loved dancing with Fernando, listening to live music, and sharing the happiness and laughter that came so naturally to her.
One of Luz’s greatest joys was being a grandmother. She adored her grandchildren—Max, Metzli, Luciana, Lucas, Leia, and Leo—and treasured the time she spent with them, especially their camping trips together. She gave them not only wonderful memories, but the experience of being deeply and generously loved.
Luz will be remembered for her extraordinary kindness, her emotional generosity, and her contagious laugh. She had a way of making people feel cared for, welcomed, and loved, and that warmth will remain with everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her sister Gladys. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Fernando; her sons, Christian and Daniel; her grandchildren, Max, Metzli, Luciana, Lucas, Leia, and Leo; her siblings, Olga, Carmenza, Hernando, and Alvaro; and the many family members and friends whose lives were made brighter by her presence.
Luz’s life was filled with family, hard work, music, dancing, laughter, and love. Those who loved her will carry all of it forward.
