

Maala Liwanag, 101 years old, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on February 8,1925 in San Fernando, Mexico, Pampanga, Philippines to Demetria Dizon and Honesto Tizon. Orphaned at an early age, she was taken care of by her uncle, Bibiano Puno. She was a beloved sister to her siblings Ely (deceased), Protea (deceased), and Pompillo (deceased). She was also devoted wife to her husband Alfonso D. Liwanag Sr. till his death on June 4, 2004.
She is survived by her children, Kinda, Noemi (deceased), Vivien (deceased), Wilma, Susan, Alfonso Jr., Brenda, and Ramoncito; her grandchildren; Joy, Dennis, Michael, Marc, Melvin, Marissa Michelle, Krizia Samantha, Luigi Stefano, Stephanie, Andrei Dominic, and Gabriel; her great grandchildren, Maxine, Anselmo, Chance, Stephen, Vivien, Alira, Amelia, Regina, Gio, Theo, Gian, Fate, Will, Anya and Lucia.
From the province of San Fernando, Pampanga, to living in a house in Sto Nino Manila with her family of 9, she then moved to the states in 1985 with her husband and a few of her children. She lived her life to the fullest enjoying taking care of others. Her later years were enjoyed by going shopping at the mall and eating ice cream.
The family wishes to thank Together Hospice for the care and compassion, especially her nurse Ms. Katherine who brought her joy her first run through with hospice care, and Julienne who was there till her last breath.
A viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Chula Vista, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista, CA 91910, US, on July 19, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will take place at St Mary Catholic Church, 426 E Seventh St, National City, California 91950, on July 20, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
Maala’s final resting place will be at La Vista Memorial Park, 3191 Orange St, National City, CA 91950, US, on July 20, 2026, at 11:30 am.
