Marina was born in Mexicali, Mexico on February 24, 1929;the youngest of six children born to Francisco and Amelia Soto. Through her brother, Arturo Soto she was introduced to his school friend, Jesus Guerrero. It was love at first site for Jesus, who claimed her as his future wife. Being only 12, Marina did not take his comment seriously. But his patience paid off when at the age of 20 Marina married the young man who had been persistently at her side for 8 years.
This relationship was the beginning of a 62 year adventure to the love of her life, Jose de Jesus Guerrero. Together they raised six wonderful children using the bible as their guidance and the belt as the enforcer.
Marina was so much to so many, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say to hundreds. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.
In addition to raising six extraordinary human beings she gave to her church and community as an active volunteer for more than 30 years at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in National City and at the Church of the Most Precious Blood in Chula Vista.
She had a passion for gardening and for her “grandchildren” who were light of her life. In her heart, these grandchildren included nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews who were included in her special circle of love.
Marina touched the lives of so many others in her role as a "prayer warrior". People from near and far, known and unknown to her would call and ask her to pray for their various causes from lost keys to major medical problems because she was so devout in her faith they knew her prayers would be heard. She was God’s special “angel on earth” and now she has taken her rightful place in heaven,
She is survived by five of her children: Rose Guerrero of Seattle, WA, Robert (Vicki) Guerrero of Chula Vista, Albert (Teri) Guerrero of San Diego, Alice (Jeff) VanCleave of Chula Vista and Martha (Dale) Wamberg of Chino Valley, AZ and was preceded in death by her oldest son Jesus Guerrero. She is also survived by her loving big brother Arturo Soto.
She had 16 grandchildren: Cristina Guerrero, Cindy Giles, Jacob Guerrero (deceased), Noah Guerrero, Micah Guerrero, James Guerrero, Nathan Guerrero, Jamie Guerrero, Adam Guerrero, Alyssa Guerrero, Leyna Butcher, Amanda Slowikowski, Kelly Hasley, Jesse Wamberg, Kyle Wamberg and Halen House and more than a dozen great grandchildren. She also leaves too many nieces and nephews to name them all.
