

Nicholas Anthony Tomera was born on July 22,1980 in San Diego to the late Anthony John Tomera and Arlene (nee Stencel) Tomera. He is survived by his mother, his sister Elizabeth Tomera, an uncle Alan Stencel, cousins, his girlfriend Heather Hays, and close family friends Richard and Luana Whittington.
Nick attended St. Michael Academy from kindergarten through eighth grade. During his elementary years he was active as an altar server, a Cub Scout, and a little league baseball player. He attended and graduated from the University of San Diego High School. He continued his education graduating from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in political science. He was awarded a lifetime certificate by Phi Alpha Theta for scholarship recognition in the field of history. He attended the University of Kansas Law School where he received his Juris Doctor degree.
Nick worked as an environmental consultant for close to 20 years, and was employed by the GEI Consultants firm for the last 10 years. Occasionally, his job would send him out in the field and he would note the plant and animal species present, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Nick loved spending time in nature, visiting and hiking in several state and national parks. He was an avid hiker at Mission Trails, Cowles Mountain, and Torrey Pines. Several days a week he would be hiking these areas or exploring the other beautiful trails in San Diego County. Nick’s other interests included going to the beach, reading, watching The Simpsons sitcom, playing with the family cats, and putting together puzzles and LEGO sets.
Nick will always be remembered for his adventurous side, his humorous and witty personality, his devotion to his family and close friends, his service to the environmental world, and his love and awe of nature. He is truly missed!
