Born August 3, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to Robert and Frieda Hall, he lived in Dayton until joining the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego where he remained until his untimely death on December 31, 2021, he was 79.
Norman graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio and attended Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. While in the Navy, he married Dolores and to that union Tina and Erica were born. He then married Edith and to that union Norman II was born. Norm graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelors in Science Degree. Norm met Susy at IRT and they were married in Las Vegas and to that union Tiffany was born.
Norm’s work history included General Dynamics, IRT, Maxwell S-Cube and he retired from Space Micro. He was an electronic engineer and his specialty was radiation effects. He traveled for work to New Mexico, Alaska, and many other places to conduct testing. One year to earn extra income, he worked at Radio Shack at Christmas time and outsold all the other employees because of his technical background and love of electronics, probably without trying too much. He just knew a lot!
Norm enjoyed jazz and hip-hop music and was a techie for the family. Over the years he prepared tax returns for his loved ones. He was a ham radio enthusiast, taking after his father’s interest, and had lots of memorable times with this hobby. He also enjoyed going to the shooting range with his buddies and especially his family to teach them how to shoot properly. He even took his almost 90-year old Aunt Donna to the shooting range in Ohio. He also played drums and had an electronic drum set for many years. As a techie he also enjoyed flying his drone’s big, small, tiny you name it he had it. He also loved to play with the software Linux on one of the worlds smallest computers his Raspberry Pi. He very much enjoyed playing with Snapchat and the many filters on there.
In later years, Norm was a volunteer tour guide (Docent) for the USS Midway Museum and spent a lot of time giving tours and meeting interesting folks from all parts of the world. He loved giving tours on the Midway so much, he especially enjoyed when his family and friends asked questions about the ship and would always invite them for a long day on the Midway for a personal tour. He never met any strangers and always had a joke or two or told waitresses, “Oh, you didn’t have to bring the check!” He also loved desserts and one of his favorite restaurants was Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in the Los Angeles area.
He had and loved many cars over his lifetime and even rode in a race car in Florida at the Richard Petty Race Track with one of the professional drivers. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle as well.
Norman leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Susy, their daughter, Tiffany (Omar), his daughters Tina (Kathy) and Erica, and his son, Norman II (Juana), sisters Linda (Ruben) and Deborah (Donald), grandchildren Denzel, Raquel, Devon, Adriana, and Scarlette, along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and family in Ohio and San Diego.
