

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; children Susan, Sandra (Chris), and Richard; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, who will deeply miss his love and guidance.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Willy Carl and Lula Beard; siblings Lucille, Willy Jr., Doris, Kenneth, John; his son, Buddy; son-in-law, Gary; and grandchild, Chad.
Born in Oklahoma in 1929 on August 18, Ray was mostly raised in Little Rock, Arkansas where he worked with his father as a sharecropper, carpenter and mechanic. This is where most of his captivating and amusing stories came from, which he frequently shared to the delight of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also known for having entertaining expressions and phrases commonly used in the South.
Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for 21 years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant after distinguished service in the Korean War and Vietnam War. Following his military career, Ray worked as a construction contractor for 20 years, retiring in 1996.
Ray's passions included storytelling, fishing, golf, bowling, visiting the casino, and creating crafts. In his early years, he enjoyed singing and playing guitar. He was an avid card player, especially with Mary's family, and cherished these moments as special times with loved ones.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Ray's life, remembering his service, dedication, and the joy he brought to those around him. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 24th, 2025 at 1 P.M. at Miramar National Cemetery (5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122). Ray was a big personality with an infectious charisma, drawing people in with his warm smile. He was cherished beyond words and will forever leave an unforgettable legacy.
