Rebecca Ramírez Atkins was born Sept. 5, 1930, in Greeley, Colo., and died Sept. 15, 2024, at her home in Encinitas, Calif. She was the daughter of the late María Francisca Romana López Ramírez and José Jesús Ramírez Ruiz. Bequi graduated from Larned (Kan.) Bequi married the love of her life Dr. Claude Cage Atkins, who became a career Navy surgeon. Over the years, Claude, Bequi and their three children were stationed at multiple military bases in California, Alaska, Maryland and South Carolina. They were married for 48 years, until Claude's death in 2007. Bequi was also predeceased by three of her sisters and four brothers. Bequi's passions were her siblings and their families, her children, her grandchildren, classical guitar playing and volunteering. She played in the Encinitas Guitar Ensemble for many years and volunteered her time and Spanish language skills to a number of volunteer organizations in the North County. Her generosity to family and friends was remarkable.
