On Thanksgiving morning, Robert (“Bob”) Nielsen passed at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth, his daughters, Jackie Guerra and Cheryl Nielsen, and his son-in-law, Genero Guerra. He was known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren and step-grandchildren (Nick, Jaclyn, Camille and Jessica), his great grand children (Elisa, Genero, Kaia, and Gianni) and all their friends. Sadly, he is not here to meet his newest great grandson, Dominic, who is due to be born any day. Bob lived a full and proud life. He was pilot in the Navy for 27 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1968, and was amongst a very rare and special group known as the Silver Eagles. He served our country in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, and flew over 26 different planes during his service. After retirement, he lived a fun and passionate life traveling the country in his motorhome and enjoying several cruises with Ruth until he was “grounded” because of health issues. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He lived a great life and he will be missed dearly!
Bob will be honored at Fort Rosecrans on January 12, 2011, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at the community clubhouse located at 1050 Las Rosas Court, Chula Vista, CA 91910. Please feel free to contact Jackie with any questions at 619-742-1554 or [email protected].
Flowers are being managed by Amanda at Botanic Allure, 619-358-3648.
We want to thank our wonderful friends for their generous donation in Bob’s name to the Rick Roberts Wounded Warrior Foundation.
