Tania was born in New York City and raised next door to Carnegie Hall. Her parents were distinguished voice teachers and Tania and her sister Linda enjoyed secretly running through an obscure passageway into Carnegie Hall during performances. Tania’s artistic upbringing affected the rest of her life. She mastered the accordion and piano, was an accomplished painter and art collector, and an avid reader and writer. She played tennis, sailed, jogged, and loved crossword puzzles and her home at the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
She and her first husband Lewis Kleid raised their family in Rye, New York. Lewis was a pioneer in the direct mail advertising business. Upon his retirement they moved to La Jolla, California. After Lewis’ death, Tania was married Mike Sumberg, who had been a stockbroker in New York City and then Miami.
She is survived by her children Roger Kleid of San Francisco,California, Lynne Reardon of Evergreen, Colorado, and Kerry Robertson, of Kaiserslautern, Germany, her grandchildren, Christine, Jessica, and Lewis, her great grandchild, Tegan, her sister Linda Lees, and her step-children from her second marriage John Sumberg, Andrew Sumberg, and Daniel Sumberg. Tania was a generous loving friend to many.
We will miss her warm presence in our lives.
