Barbara Lee Bolden was born to Richard and Marion Bolden on March 31, 1933 in Hayward, Ca. She was the only daughter born to Richard and Marion, with an older brother, Richard Jr. “Dickie” and Steven “her kid brother” who was born when Barbara was in High School. Their family moved to Rio Linda, Ca in the summer of 1940. Barbara graduated from Grant Union High School in the spring of 1952. After high school she worked for Pacific Telephone in Sacramento until she moved to Detroit, Michigan with friends in 1953. Barbara moved back to California and married her childhood friend, Jack Haseley in 1955. They had 2 Daughters, Marie and Melissa who meant the world to Barbara. She became Post Master of Somerset Post Office after working there for a number of years. She retired from the post office to care for her elderly parents in the mid-eighties. Jack and Barbara were married for 20 years until they went their separate ways.
Barbara later re-married after finding the love of her life, Donald Chaney. They were happily married for 17 years until Don passed away in 1995 in Crescent City, Ca where they have lived after retirement. Barbara's Son-In-Law, Guy and Daughter, Melissa, moved her to Camino after Don's passing where they bought property in Apple Hill. This is where she considered “home”.
Barbara was blessed with 4 grandchildren- Christopher, Megan, Emily and Zachary. Out of the 4 grandchildren, Megan and Emily gave her 4 great-grandchildren, Shelby, Nathan, Brandon and Elijah. Emily and her husband Jason along with their boys, Nate and Eli, lived with Barbara from 2004 until her passing. Barbara's greatest joy was her family. She had an integral part in all of their lives and was involved in every big milestone. She went by many names over the years, but one in particular stuck with her, “Gowie”. She would be known by this name with family and friends for many years.
Barbara was a very talented seamstress and had lovingly made many items for her family and friends over the years, from baby clothes to wedding dresses and everything in between. Ken and Barbie had a wardrobe to “die for” haha. But her real passion was quilting. Barbara made baby blankets and donated them to the Crisis Pregnancy Center for newborn babies, donating hundreds of blankets over the years. Her skilled hand created many well-loved quilts for her family as well. Everyone had something from her and all were hand made, which she took much pride in.
Above everything else in Barbara's life, her faith in Christ was the most important thing to her. Through all the joys and trials in her lifetime, Barbara always relied on God to bring her through it and God blessed her for her unwavering faith.
On the morning of August 27,2013, with family at her bedside, Barbara went home to be with the Lord. She was met there by her husband, Son, Parents and many other friends and family that went before her.
Regardless of the name she went by- Mom, Gowie, Grammie, Sister and Friend, she will be greatly missed by all who loved her until we see her again.
