I first met Gary at John Barrett Junior High School in Carmichael in the 7th grade Sign Language Class in 1981. We became friends and I remember he invited me to his house for a sleep-over on a school night. We had a great time together. I remember having to wake up at 5am the next morning and take the bus to school together. Wow! Gary was one tough nut! School didn’t even start until 8am. I couldn’t believe he did this everyday! I walked home after school much more impressed by Gary’s fortitude and gentleness. He really was a good guy. I have a handicapped son now and I often think how Gary must have had to “fight” to keep up with the rest of us. May his precious soul rest in piece in the happiness of the Lord.

Gary was a beautiful soul. I went to church with Gary at Disciples Church in Folsom. I dreamed about Gary last night I can’t get him off my heart. I had nothing but hugs and laughs with Gary. He had a gift for spreading incredible kindness and compassion amongst us. We jokingly called it getting “welched” because he had such an infectious way of reminding us of the truth, love, and grace of Christ. We love and miss you Mr. Welch!!!

Death is so unfair.  The scriptures tell us that death is the “last enemy” to be brought to nothing.  In the meantime, may your family find comfort in God’s word at Rev 21:4 which says:  “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.  The former things have passed away.”
