
James J. Brown born February 17, 1922 in Wheatland, CA and went to be with his Lord on March 23, 2015, at the age of 93. Married to his wife, Helen, for 70 years. Jim spent his life preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed religious and political discussion, and most all outside activities. Jim’s Bible education took place at San Jose Bible College & Midwestern School of Evangelism. His career included preaching in Iowa, Louisiana, and California, where he served as the evangelist for the Fig Street/Tyler Street Church of Christ from 1956 to 1996.
He enjoyed many sports, including basketball, football, softball, and even boxing while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Proceeded in death by his parents James Parker Brown and Hazel Irene Overholtzer, and his siblings – Aaron, Alice, Betty, Iris, Julia, and Pat. Survived by his wife, and children Steve, Wayne, Carolyn, Stewart, Julie, & Wes, and 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He always had a very special connection with his grandchildren. He loved and provided for his wife and children’s physical and spiritual needs throughout life, always putting Jesus first, and trusting God to do the rest. Jim is remembered for his love and devotion to Jesus Christ, incredible knowledge of the Scriptures, and being unashamed to share it. Graveside Interment is 2:30 p.m. Friday – March 27, 2015, at the Sylvan Cemetery, 7401 Auburn Boulevard, Citrus Heights, CA. Celebration of Life is 10:30 a.m. Saturday – March 28, 2015, at the Tyler Street Church of Christ, 5029 Tyler Street, Sacramento, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tyler Street Church of Christ in Jim’s memory.
