Joyce Anne Freeman, beloved mother, grandmother, great‑grandmother, aunt and friend, passed peacefully on September 17, 2026. She now joins her husband of 66 years, Robert, who preceded her in 2015. Those who knew her understood that Joyce’s heart never fully recovered after losing Robert; a part of her left with him, long before her passing.
Born in Columbus, Mississippi, Joyce was raised by her mother Bessie Arnez Reeves and her stepfather E.C. Reeves. Her life changed forever when she met the love of her life, a young Columbus AFB airman named Robert, originally from Bath, Maine.
Their union was a true meeting of worlds — a pretty Southern belle, southern Baptist girl from Columbus Mississippi fell in love with a handsome Irish Catholic boy from Bath Maine One can only imagine that first meeting between the families: polite smiles, cautious curiosity, leaving them wondering if this North‑meets‑South romance would work out.
And of course, it did — beautifully.
Together, Joyce and Robert set out into the world with little more than determination and devotion. Their journey led them to California, where they built a life from the ground up and ran a successful insurance business for more than 50 years — a testament to their partnership, grit, and shared purpose.
Joyce is survived by her daughter and family, her son and family, four grandchildren and four great‑grandchildren who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her two brothers, six nieces and a nephew from Columbus MS. She is also survived by ten nephews and four nieces from Worcester Mass.
Family and close friends were Joyce’s greatest joy. Whether gathered around a table, celebrating milestones, or simply sharing everyday moments, she found her deepest happiness in the closeness of those she loved.
Her legacy is one of warmth, devotion, and quiet strength — a life lived with grace, loyalty, and an unwavering love for her family. And now, reunited with the love of her life, her heart is finally at peace.
