October 30, 1943October 25, 2018

With solemn and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Melvin “G-Bear” Taylor. Melvin Gene Taylor, better known by his closest friends as G-Bear (Grizzly Bear), was born October 30, 1943 in Richmond, California and passed away Thursday October 25, 2018 at age 74. Melvin was the first born child of Lewis Earl Taylor and Goldie Ovine Taylor, he is survived by his daughter, Cheri Lynn Taylor, his two sons Dean Earl Taylor (Kim) and Zachary Ellis Taylor (Fabiola), by his grandchildren; Logan, Michael, Jordan, Beto, Mauro, Elias, Fernando, Julian, his younger brother Denny, his sisters Sharron, Marsha and Charma. Melvin started a career in the Iron Works as an apprentice soon after graduating from high school. As a journeyman he had a storied and highly accomplished career “busting rods”, connecting, welding and as an instructor for the Iron Worker apprenticeship program that spanned across California and parts of Nevada before becoming a General Foreman until his early retirement at age 48. With an early retirement secured, Melvin set his sights on items that were close to his heart by going back to school to secure a position at Charter Hospital as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselor. Entrepreneurial and adventurous, he started a vending machine business, which he eventually sold and also spent time traveling across the United States by way of motorcycle and a motorhome. A true outdoorsman, he loved camping, fishing, boating and rowing. Purchasing a home in the rural part of Sacramento County, he was fond of stating he officially retired and received great satisfaction in keeping his 2.5 acres of property maintained to a park like setting for his family gatherings and frequent events with his motorcycle clubs who nicknamed him G-Bear. Melvin truly was a fearless man who lived his life on his own terms. He was reliable, selfless in his day to day life and fiercely protective of his entire family. For those closest and who knew him best, they characterized his most distinctive qualities as honesty and loyalty. For his family, friends and his beloved Rottweiler, Baron, Mel’s loving spirit will be missed beyond what words are able to truly articulate. A memorial service and a celebration of G-Bears life will be held at Reichert’s Funeral Home, 7320 Auburn Blvd., Citrus Heights, CA on Saturday November 10, 2018 at 11:00 am.
