Norman Leroy Longstreet aged 76 passed away Wednesday evening November 16 2011 at his home in Roseville; CA. Norman fought a very courageous battle with Asbestos related Mesothelioma for over 2 years. His wife Nancy of 56 years and children were with him to the end.
Norman was a third generation plasterer; He began his career at age 16 and retired in April of 2000. He was a hard worker and took very good care of his family.
Norman was born in Long Beach, CA one of four children born to Fred and Della Longstreet. In 1954 he married Nancy Burkhardt in Redondo Beach, CA. They soon moved from Southern California to Northern California and settled in Sacramento and Eldorado County where they raised their family.
He is preceded in death by his first born son, Norman Joseph. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his son Daniel, and three daughters, Heidi, Valerie, and Joanna. Norman also leaves behind 11 grand children and 11 great-grandchildren.
Norman became a spiritual person after a continuing study of god’s word the bible. He did his best to be a good neighbor and good friend to all he met. He was active in the community as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and spoke to all who would listen to the bible message of hope and peace. That message was the source of comfort and peace to him throughout his illness and continues to strength us.
Norman enjoyed ocean fishing, horses, tending his garden with special attention to the tomatoes to make sure they were bigger than his son Daniels. He loved to BBQ for his family and friends. As a family we enjoyed yearly trips to Bodega Bay where we have many wonderful memoires being together, laughing, cooking, playing games and fishing. In the last days of battling his illness he still kept his sense of humor and positive nature with his signature “thumbs up” gesture.
We greatly anticipate the day that we will see him again. Our father was truly there for us no matter what the situation; we will always remember him and miss him.
He leaves behind countless friends who loved him for his strong faith and conviction in Jehovah, along with his quick wit and entertaining humor.
Our bible based hope of a resurrection to life on a restored paradise earth continues to strength us as we patiently wait to see our dear one again as promised in god’s word.
Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things ato a resurrection of judgment.
