Susan Patricia Foster, age 71, of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away on December 28, 2024, after facing ALS with grace and resilience for three years. The day marked the 52nd anniversary of her wedding to her loving husband, Philip, who was at her side along with many of her other beloved family members.
Born on June 17, 1953, in Crane, Texas, to Audrey Lavon “Von” Archer and Patricia June Williford (née Bostwick), Susan was a devoted daughter and sister, caring for her family while engaging in a wealth of activities such as twirling, participating in pageants (once being named “Miss Congeniality”), and playing the clarinet. Susan went on to complete degrees in education and speech pathology.
In 1972, she married the love of her life, Philip Foster, and the two remained inseparable, creating a love story together that spanned over five decades and produced an enduring legacy.
Susan devoted her entire life to caring for others. She had a deep love for children and a passion for learning. For most of her distinguished teaching career, Susan taught Pre-K in Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, being recognized twice as Teacher of the Year for her role in shaping her students’ lives. For over ten years, Susan organized, secured funding for, and ran the Cannon Summer Reading Club, empowering local children to read and continue learning throughout the summer months.
Susan loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, constantly inventing fun activities and teaching them with extraordinary patience and care. In recent summers, she held an annual “Cousin Camp” for her grandchildren, complete with custom t-shirts and educational activities, blessing them with memories they will cherish forever. She always encouraged them to be themselves, taught them to care for others, and showed them how to keep learning.
Susan was inventive and creative, developing a mastery of sewing, cooking, and anything she put her mind to. She willingly shared her knowledge, skills, and hard work, and she worked tirelessly to help friends, family, and even strangers wherever she saw a need.
Susan is survived by her husband of 52 years, Philip; her children Andrew (wife Sarah) and Sarah (husband Bobby Carlton); and five grandchildren: Grant, Samantha, Ruby, Owen, and Jonathan. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her and carry her memory with love. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and sister, Tina.
Susan Foster made loving others her entire life story, and for that her loved ones are forever thankful.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral home in Colleyville, Texas.
