Beauty and joy, laughter and fun throughout our teenage years and beyond through letters and Christmas time greetings…cherished are the memories I hold of my lovely friend. Charisse's presence in my life was a gift of grace and gratitude.

Dear Evan, Corinna and Serena,

Our deepest condolences for all of you.  May God bring you comfort and peace at this time.

We have wonderful memories of you all coming to Stockton and us getting together so our girls could play with Corinna and Serena and eat at McDonald's when they were all little!

Even though time has separated us and we haven't seen each other too often, we're glad that we have been connected in some way.

Praying for all of you at this time.

Dear Aunt Charisse,
I’m so sad you had to leave so soon. 

I’ll miss you dearly but will never forget all the beautiful and happy memories you left.

You had such a kind and generous spirit. Especially when it came to sharing all your baked and savory goodies. You were never one to follow a recipe (I inherited that from you) and always dared to change it up to the way you wanted it. 

There are so many things I’ll remember and cherish. Like when you got me my first interview.  And how you made sure I didn’t starve when I first moved to S.F. I think I was at your house every week during that first year. You fed me well.

You taught Pat and I had to make juhng. You were so patient getting everything prepped and trying to teach us how to fold and tie them correctly. And just recently you convinced me to sit down and teach me how to make steamed and baked baos. As usual yours always turned out so much tastier and better shaped. My favorite part – besides devouring everything – was the stories you told us about growing up with Pwa Pwa, grandpa, Uncle George, Aunt Alice and my Mom. There was always lots of laughter and lessons to be learned.

Your spirit will always be with us. And I’ll think of you as I’m trying to get the right amount of filling into my baos and shaping them so that they get that peak.  But I know they will never taste or look as good as yours.

I was so sad to hear about Charisse's passing; her lovely daughter Corinna texted me yesterday to let me know. Charisse was a special person in my life, as we met as fellow travelers on the road to becoming parents, and helped one another along the way. When we went into that orphanage in Zhuzhou, Hunan, China in 1994 and emerged with our babies, Rachel and Corinna, it was joyous reminder of the miracle of life and how love emboldens us to take on seemingly impossible tasks. I'm so glad Charisse and I experienced that awesome moment together, becoming parents for the first time, and I thank her for all she did to help me with the details and connections that were necessary to accomplish something so magnificent. We both now have beautiful grown adopted Chinese daughters , which are our treasured legacies.  Prayers to Evan, Corinna, Serena and other extended family members, especially Elaine Mah. God bless you all, and thank you for everything, Charisse! Rest in Peace. Mark George of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I’m just so devastated to hear of Charisse’s passing. My deepest sympathy goes to her family - the world has lost such a lovely spirit. I’ll hold on to the memories starting with those first days at Lowell. I treasure all the sure-fire recipes and health tips she so generously shared through the years..
