November 29, 1953 – November 29, 2024
Elsa Marie King was born on November 29, 1953, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The third of seven siblings, she was affectionately nicknamed “Jou Jou,” meaning “toy” or “to play.” On December 17, 1970, Elsa and her family emigrated from Haiti to Manhattan, New York, where she began a new chapter of her life.
A few years later, Elsa married Roosevelt Leo Rae and welcomed two beautiful daughters in 1974 and 1975. The family lived in England for a time before settling permanently in the Bay Area, California. In 1987, Elsa had her third daughter, completing her loving family.
Elsa’s joy for life was evident in everything she did. She loved fashion, always dressed impeccably, and wore makeup with confidence and pride. Her vibrant spirit was matched by her love of music, often filling her days with her favorite songs. Elsa was a free spirit who embraced life’s simple pleasures and treated everyone she met with kindness and grace.
Elsa passed away unexpectedly on November 29, 2024, at the age of 71. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Her love, strength, resilience, and beauty were an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in those who loved her.
