It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Gemma Chan, of San Francisco, CA on January 13, 2025, at the age of 86 years. She was born Pui Fung Chan in Fong Shing, Kwangtung, China, in 1938, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1958.
Gemma was a wonderful mother and grandmother, always there when we needed her the most, providing us with her support, wisdom, and love. She was filled with kindness, laughter, and resilience, and touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed plants and gardening.
Gemma is survived by her husband, Hing Kan Shum, daughters, Shirley Wong and Christine Low, grandchildren, Kiersten and Nicholas Wong, sister, Margaret Wong of Arkansas, and brother, Roland Chan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shu and Jing Chan, son, Johnion Low, and daughter, Judy Low. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
A small viewing and burial will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at the Woodlawn Memorial Park, located at 1000 El Camino Real, Colma, CA 94014.
