Jean grew up in Chinatown, lived in the Ping Yuen projects, attended Commodore Stockton, Everett Middle School, and graduated from Mission High School. While working at Royal shop on Grant Avenue in 1977, she met and fell in love with a local Chinatown Tour Guide, David.
They married in 1981 and had three children. She started working as a bank teller at various banks in San Francisco to support her family. In 1995, she started her career with the City and County of San Francisco as a Parking Control Officer with the Department of Parking and Traffic and transferred within the department to process citation payments and citation appeals. In 2007, she started working for the San Francisco Superior Court, as a Deputy Court Clerk, processing paperwork for civil cases and juvenile appeals, finally retiring in late 2020.
She enjoyed traveling to Europe and Asia with her husband, Las Vegas with her best friend, spending time with her family and friends, baking biscotti, cooking new recipes, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. During the pandemic, she sewed masks for family, coworkers, as well as for her grandchildren’s teachers and other first responders to show her gratitude for their hard work.
She was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2023, and fought bravely and strongly this past year to try to beat it. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
She is survived by her husband David, her children, Jocelyn, David Jr., and Jody, her sons and daughter in law, Thomas, Lady, and Bryan, and her four grandchildren, Inno, Hannah Jean, Brandon, and Teddy. She will always be remembered as being fierce, outspoken, kind-hearted, and thoughtful. She never wanted anyone to make a fuss over her but she touched more lives with her love than she knew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Peninsula Humane Society.
