On behalf of Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, Class of 1964, we offer this tribute to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Fong Towie (方滔).

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear classmate Dr. Towie Fong. He was blessed to have just celebrated joyfully and gratefully his 80th milestone birthday.

Towie truly lived up to his motto, “helping people to honor God” (榮神益人). As a physician and geriatrician, he dedicated his life to caring for the sick. A devout Christian, he believed in preaching through “caring for the elderly to serve God” (我的信念是透過服侍長者來事奉上帝), a belief that was clearly reflected in his lifelong work.

Towie was the first Chinese valedictorian to graduate from USC's School of Medicine.  He had a distinguished 32-year medical career with Kaiser Permanente and taught at Stanford and USCF Medical Schools.

In 2005 Towie answered God's calling and opened a private practice in San Francisco’s Chinatown to care for low-income patients.  He took pride in counseling his patients and their families, especially the terminally ill, bringing them relief and comfort while they cope with the inevitable.

A tireless preacher, Towie worked hard to spread the Christian faith, one soul at a time. Combining his medical knowledge and spiritual calling, he was affectionately known as the “Missionary Doctor".

In 2015, Towie published 醫者心 (“From the Heart of A Doctor”), sharing insights on balancing body, mind, and soul. Focusing on preventive medicine, he regularly conducted talks on health and wellness at his church to benefit the local Chinese community.

Towie championed the importance of contentment, gratitude, and trust in God as the foundation of happiness.  His spiritual devotion is reflected in what would be his final message on his Facebook page on 12/31/24: “2025 再次的交給主, 365 都有神的祝福. 繼續仰望神帶領看顧. 感思禱告.”

We will miss Towie's wisdom, spirit of devotion, unique sense of humor and laughter.

時維 1957年夏，初踏入華仁書院校園，按紙貼名單而魚貫入課
室，猶記得莊志如及方滔在我之前。方滔人如其名，滔滔不絕，
其後被選為班長！
時光荏苒，不覺在校渡過愉快之青少年代，除了學術，
亦有不少課外活動，在此亦要多謝各神甫及教師之循循善導。
前天噩訊傳來，多年同班校友方滔醫生蒙上主歸召，令人唏噓！
方醫生對社區及教會有莫大貢獻，除長時間看顧病人，
亦常設醫學講座，比喻風趣幽默，令長者叫好！
方醫生曾著作<醫者心>，文筆流暢，按例亦多，自可傳世！！
