Walter Kwok Wai Lee could have lived for only 51 years, but he decided to stick around and fight it out for another 23. After surviving his heart attack in 1992, Walter’s long battle with heart disease came to an end when he passed peacefully in his sleep at the age of 74 on the evening of July 17, 2015, in Redwood City, CA. During his final days, he was constantly surrounded by family and loved ones.
Walter was born on August 27, 1940 to Fung Kon Hin and Lee Chung Ho in British Hong Kong. He was the third of five children. In 1962, he and his family immigrated to San Francisco. Soon after arriving in the City, he found his way into the medical supply business. This led to him and his business partner starting up Bay Area Surgical, the company that would define his career for the next 30+ years.
Walter literally fell in love with the girl next door. He married his next door neighbor Sandra Fong in 1973. They started a family and settled down in Millbrae. His love for his two children was only surpassed by his love for his five grandchildren. He relished every moment of the last 11 years in his role as grandfather.
Walter had a talent of making people laugh. His magnetic personality and signature sense of humor will be missed. Walter also had a passion for many things which included cooking restaurant quality meals for his family and friends, traveling (especially to Hawaii), the 49ers and Giants, and his ever growing collection of bobbleheads.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Sandra; son Wayne (Selina); daughter Sarah (Parkin); grandchildren Sydney, Jasper, Audrey, Milo, and Damon; his sisters Marian, Josephine (Bill), and Peggy; and countless family and friends that will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 19th at 1:30, at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Cardiovascular
