Barbara was born on January 28, 1946 in Springfield, Tennessee to James Johnson and Francile White. She moved to California at a young age, but she would spend many summers visiting family in Colorado City, Texas. In 1974 she enlisted in the United States Air Force to proudly service her country. While serving on active duty, she traveled to many locations around the globe, including Korea, Guam, Montana, California, New England, Kansas, and Massachusetts. She started her military career in transportation and eventually worked her way up to being assigned to the Command and Control Integration Center where she dealt with many important and usually top secret operations.
After retiring from the military in 1994, Barbara, along with her family, drove from Boston to Colorado City in a very cozily packed car to start her new life as a retiree. Not long after retiring, Barbara realized that she just wasn't ready for the easy and laid back life. Her passion for food and her boundless love for her family and friends helped her open QB's, a labor of love that allowed her to shine as a beacon in her community.
While stationed in Guam, Barbara joined her husband, Kirven Tillis in the order of the Freemason as an Eastern Star. She had many hobbies that she was well known for, such as fishing, ceramics making, and her famous cooking skills that she was so good at that her friends lovingly bequeathed her the title of the Queen Bee.
