She was born in Colorado City on December 13, 1944 to Elmer and Esther Pearl Burks Green.
Bernice was a stay-at-home-mom, but so much more. As the matriarch of her family she held it all together and taught her family the important lessons in life. She was the type of woman who didn’t meet a stranger but knew instantly if she liked you. If she liked you she would welcome you with open arms and treat you like family. She spent almost 50 years married to love of her life Donald Lee Emerson Sr. who preceded her in death in 2021. In her spare time she enjoyed listening to gospel music, dancing, picking up rocks, chickens and roosters, working in her yard, and feeding the birds. She was a loving soul who will be missed by all who got the chance to know her.
Bernice is survived by her sons; Buddy Lenard of Colorado City, Bobby Lenard and wife Shaleda of San Diego, Darion Emerson and wife Bonnie of Lubbock, Christopher Emerson of Snyder, and Donald Emerson and wife Misty Parham of Colorado City, by daughters Kathy Green of Colorado City, Brenda Richmond and husband Alfred of Colorado City, April Lenard of Colorado City, Wyonna Lenard of Lubbock, Diane Davenport and significant other Freddie James of Colorado City, Roshena Evans of Lubbock, and Teronda Emerson of Colorado City, as well as by 68 grandchildren, 124 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Junior Green and Tally Green both of Sweetwater, by sisters Jowanna Askew and husband T.J. of Lubbock, Lizzy Tillis of Colorado City, Marie Green of Beaumont, and Betty Fay Tillis of Sweetwater as well as by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Lee Emerson Sr., by son-in-law Larry Evans, grandsons Khalil Evans, Trevon Tieh, Ayden Prudhome, Trevon Webb, and Nathan Emerson, by brothers R.J. Green, Johnny Boy Green, and Ricky Green, and by sisters Hazel Evans, Dorothy Green, and Barbara Atkins.
