Billie Marie Sheffield

She was born in her grandfather’s home near Ladonia, Texas on October 16, 1929 to E.L. and Ruby Chaffin.

She attended grade school in Bartley Woods. After her family moved to Sweetwater, Texas she attended Junior High and graduated High School in 1948.

After completing High School she attended TWU for one year, planning on teaching Physical Education. The Great Depression and subsequent financial hardships prevented her from further College Education.

Upon returning from College she was employed by the local telephone company as a PBX Operator and later worked for International Harvester until she married Atwood Sheffield on December 26, 1953.

They moved into their home south of Loraine January 1, 1954 and began farming until Atwood’s death in 2017. She continued living on the farm until her death.

She was active in her Sunday School Class and Church of First Baptist Church Loraine, Texas. After retirement they enjoyed traveling and being with family and friends, especially their Grandchildren, and in later years with Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband A.K., and by parents E.L. and Ruby Chaffin.

She is survived by her children Belinda and husband Tom Hailey of San Antonio, J.D. and wife Janice, his stepson Jeremy Pruitt, of McGregor, and Mildred Kelley of Carrollton: grandchildren – Ryan Kelley and wife Rachael of Dallas, Shane Kelley of Dallas, Caitlin Kelley of Denver, Colorado, Lamar Berkley Hailey III of San Antonio; also two Great-Grandchildren Cooper and Miles Kelley.

She is also survived by Gail Phillips Newman and other cousins.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, 2025 at Kiker Seale Funeral Home from 5pm to 6:30 pm. Graveside services will be Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Colorado City Cemetery.
