He was born in the China Grove Community of Mitchell County on November 29, 1932 to Sam and Gladys Griffith Haggerton.
Billy was a hard-working Christian man who loved his family. He was a graduate of the Hermleigh School, a veteran of the United States Army, and a member of the Church of Christ. Billy married the love of his life Ruth Rogers on March 15, 1957, together they raised their family and shared 61 wonderful years side-by-side. Billy was a quick-witted, down-to-earth man that could cut a good joke from time to time. He was a man that was very generous to others but at the same time was frugal. He had a certain way of doing many things and was very meticulous about the way they were done. Billy always made sure to remain a country boy, striking up a conversation with just about anyone and making new friends as he did, going hunting, fishing, and piddling in his workshop or around the 5 acres they owned on Lake Buchanan.
Billy is survived by his wife Ruth Haggerton of Round Rock, , by his son Jeffrey Scott Haggerton and wife Toniof Keller, by his daughters Deborah Sue Dockrey of Round Rock, Allyson LouAnne Haggerton of Round Rock, Jana Michelle Marsh and husband Gary of Round Rock, and by his grandchildren Joe Dan, Weston, Reese, Megan, Mallory, Madison, and Zach, as well as by 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Sherri Lynn Haggerton, a son-in-law Bill Dockrey, and by a granddaughter Peyton Nicole Marsh.
