He was born in Colorado City to Raymond and Joan Mann Watlington on May 5, 1946.
Charles was a smart man who enjoyed life to the fullest and who knew how to work hard. In his younger years he grew up on the family farm just north of Colorado City and he learned to farm and ranch which he did for many years before earning his bachelor’s degree in industrial arts from Sulross University in Alpine. He held many jobs such as a woodshop instructor, a Justice of the Peace, among others, but his longest tenured job was with MHMR as a case worker and as a case manager.
Charles was an athletic man in his younger days playing many sports especially softball as he got past his high school years. In his spare time he enjoyed fixing almost everything as he was a great carpenter. He also enjoyed riding horses, going around with his yorkies, and hunting. He was always big into 4H, which could extend to his days on the farm. He was a distinguished leader and gold star member in 4H, and when fatherhood came along made sure his children were also active in 4H, taking them to several stock-shows. He will be fondly remembered for the good stories he told, some true and some not so true.
Charles is survived by his sons Ty Watlington and wife Niki, Heath Watlington, and Joe Watlington all of Colorado City, and by grandchildren Jaiden, Keylee, Shaley, Kimberly, and Carrie, and by 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Larry Don Watlington and wife Carolyn of Colorado City and by his fur-babies Sosha and Paddles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Joan Watlington.
The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday, January 30th from 5-7 pm in the Kiker Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service for Charles will be held in the Colorado City Cemetery on Friday, January 31st at 10 am with Pastor James Williams of New Life Bible Ministries officiating.
