Cleburne Earl Rich

He was born in Colorado City, Texas on October 28, 1938 to Buford and Bessie McCarly Rich.

Cleburne was a lifelong resident of Mitchell County and was well known in the area. At the young age of 17 he married the love of his life Metha Mahan on November 26, 1955, and the 2 of them spent the better part of 70 years finding new ways to be each other’s best friend and companion. Cleburne was a hard-working man, working for over 30 years for Chevron as a Lease Operator until his retirement and maintaining the Westbrook Cemetery for 30 years. Cleburne was also the oldest living member of the Westbrook First Baptist Church and spent more than 30 years on the Westbrook ISD School Board. When Cleburne was not working, he enjoyed spending time with his family being the best husband, father, and grandfather that he could be. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting deer with his lifetime hunting partner and grandson Thadd and spending time on the farm. He was the type of man that had a great memory and could tell you anything you needed to know, even how to pinch pennies.

Cleburne is survived by his wife Metha Rich of Westbrook, by a son Daryl Rich and wife Donna of Westbrook, and by grandchildren; Amanda Rich, Brynn McJimsey and husband Chase, Thadd Rich and wife Ashley, Colton Rich and wife Ashlyn, Cassie Caudill and husband Clint, Heather Holleman and husband John, and Christie Mendoza. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and a brother James Rich of Weatherford, as well as by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents Buford and Bessie Rich, by a son Bruce Rich, a daughter-in-law Katherine Rich, by brothers Buzzy Rich, Larry Rich, and Gary Don Rich, and by sisters Agatha King, Retha Elsesser, and Brenda Braun.

A graveside service for Cleburne will be held in the Westbrook Cemetery on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10 am with pallbearers Daryl Rich, Thadd Rich, Colton Rich, John Holleman, Clint Caudill, and Chase McJimsey carrying him to his place of rest.
