He was born in Colorado City Texas on April 10, 1934 to Julian and Mary Wilson Hammond.
Ed spent his life doing anything and everything to do with construction, when he wasn’t working as a Home Builder he was working as a Lumber Salesman in the area. A native to Colorado City Ed lived in the area he loved. He was a graduate of Colorado High class of 1951. On January 8, 1954 he married the love of his life, Miss Mattie Sue Beauchamp. They spent 55 years raising a family and growing in love until her passing on July 25, 2009. Ed was a life member of the NRA and a former member of the Lion’s Club.
Ed was a mild-mannered man who enjoyed spending time with family and passing his trade secrets to them, teaching them many construction tips as they were growing up. In his spare time he enjoyed building things, tinkering with his hands and working in his garden, as he had an impeccable green thumb. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to old school classic country music.
He is survived by his children Milton Hammond and wife Tammy of Corpus Christi, Marty Hammond and wife Kim of Flower Mound, Brian Hammond of Round Rock, and Carla Hammond of Snyder, as well as by his grandchildren Alyssa Sturdivant of Snyder, Katherine Hammond of Berlin Germany, and Tyler Hammond of Austin, and by one great-grandchild Kohen River Sturdivant. He is also survived by a sister Mary Ellen Kennedy of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mattie Sue Hammond, by his parents, and by his siblings Romaine Hammond, Madrine Glenn, Doris Hill, and Marjorie Dykstra.
A funeral for Ed will be held at Kiker Seale Funeral Home on Monday, April 15th at 1pm with Royce Clay Sr. officiating, burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
