

Essie Pearl Ellis, age 90, of Colorado City, died Saturday morning at her residence. Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015, in the Kiker-Seale Chapel with Roy Rosson officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunn Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ellis was born September 27, 1924 in Lancaster Texas to James Andrew Greene and Janie Anabelle Dockery Greene. She married Othal Forest Ellis on September 6, 1947 in Snyder. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2004.
From a very early age, Mrs. Ellis developed a love for art. After raising her family, she started taking classes at Western Texas College in Snyder. In the beginning, she enrolled in cake decorating classes. Then she took every art class she possibly could, maintaining a perfect 4.0 average. She also enjoyed photography, genealogy, doll collecting, cooking, sewing, and crafts. She always loved children, especially her own children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She taught the 5 year old Sunday school class at 37th Street Church of Christ for over 30 years. After moving to Colorado City, she was a member of the 22nd & Austin St. Church of Christ and has attended The Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills for the past 5 years.
She is survived by 2 daughters: Cheryl and husband, Terry Haggerton of Colorado City and Connie and husband, Bill of Ft. Worth; a son, Ray and wife, Jeanne Ellis of Colorado City, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Greene, a sister, Pauline Ashley, and a great-granddaughter, Kylie Uptergrove.
