George H. Martin went to his heavenly home on December 2, 2022. He was a loving husband, daddy, and pawpaw to his wife, three children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren (with two more on the way.) He was born on August 20, 1940 to George and Lillian Martin of Beeville, Texas. One of twins, George was born after his brother, Gerald. One year later, they moved to the Martin Farm in Loraine, Texas, where they were joined by the birth of two sisters.
George participated in basketball and tennis at Loraine High School. He graduated and attended Howard College. He returned to Loraine and started farming. In 1962, George met and married Brenda. They settled in Loraine and raised three children.
George devoted his life to his faith, family, and community. God’s love was reflected throughout his life. Anyone that knew him could see the strength of his faith. He felt it was important to show his support for his family in all their activities. George was an avid supporter of the Loraine Bulldogs.
Community was also important to George. He served on numerous boards some of which included the First United Methodist Church board, SCS, ASCS, Appraisal Board, Loraine ISD School Board, and Loraine Coop Gin. George’s motto was “a man has to do what a man has to do”.
George was preceded in death by his parents George and Lillian Martin, brother Gerald Martin, a son Rusty, and one great granddaughter, Blaire Mann. He is survived by his wife Brenda Martin, two daughters; Sheila Womack of Loraine, Shelly Williams and husband Wes of Roscoe, one son Geory Martin and wife Kristi of Loraine. Eight Grandchildren, Kristian Knowlton and husband Tyler of Texas City, Garrison Williams and wife Kaitlyn of Lubbock, Jordan Womack and wife Stormy of Colorado City, Lindsey Mann and husband Tanner of Snyder, Brooke Womack-Hoffman and wife Lizzy of Portland, Oregon, Whitney Boyd and husband Travis of Lubbock, Kyle and Kaylee Martin of Loraine. Nine great grandchildren and two on the way. Sisters Charla Mae Corey of the Metroplex, and Arleta Ingram of Midland. Numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for George will be held on Monday, December 5th at 2pm at the United Methodist Church of Loraine with Pastor Horace Abbott officiating, burial will follow in the Loraine Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Tyler Knowlton, Garrison Williams, Jordan Womack, Tanner Mann, Travis Boyd, Kyle Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be Kristian Knowlton, Lindsey Mann, Brooke Womack, Lizzy Hoffman, Witney Boyd, Kaylee Martin, Kaitlyn Williams, Stormy Womack, Billy Hallman, Royce Walker, Larry Nachlinger, Larry Don Watlington, and Hal Morren
The family will be present for a visitation in the Kiker Seale Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, December 4th from 3-5 pm
