Jerry Dan Hunt passed peacefully surrounded by those who loved him on Friday June 12, 2026. Born in Colorado City in 1947 to Earl and Lola Hunt, Jerry Dan Hunt lived a life built on hard work, quiet strength, and enduring love for his family. He was a simple man in many ways, yet there was always an adventurous spirit beneath the surface—a man who could appreciate both the stillness of a fishing line on calm water and the wonder of distant places like Hong Kong and Alaska, memories he carried close throughout his life.
As a young man, Jerry dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Life had other plans for him, leading him instead into the trade that would define much of his years. As a custom floor installer, he worked with pride and skill, building a life with his hands and providing for those he loved. His work reflected the kind of man he was—steady, dependable, and unafraid of hard days.
Jerry loved the simple pleasures that made life meaningful: blues and country music drifting through the room, football games on the television, treasured sports cards collected over the years, and time spent outdoors fishing. He did not need extravagance to be content. The things he valued most were honest, lasting, and real.
He was a strict man, one who did not always wear his emotions openly. Feelings were often shown more through actions than words. But beneath that tough exterior was a father deeply proud of his sons. His love for them ran deeper than he sometimes knew how to express. He carried that same fierce love for all his family, each of whom held a permanent place in his heart.
Those who knew Jerry understood that his quiet nature was never emptiness; it was depth. He was a man who believed in showing up, working hard, and standing by family. His love was present in the sacrifices he made, the lessons he taught, the discipline he carried, and the life he built for those around him.
Now, the music has softened, the fishing poles are still, and another football season will come without him here to watch. But the memory of Jerry Dan Hunt lives on—in the stories told by family, in the values he passed down, and in the love that remains rooted deeply within the hearts of his children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind not only memories, but a legacy of resilience, devotion, and quiet love that will endure for generations to come.
Jerry is survived by his wife Sherry Hunt of Abilene, TX., Brother Steve Hunt of Azel, TX., Sister Zelda Jones of Houston, TX., Sons Mother Diane Higginbotham of Abilene, TX, Sons & Daughter-n- laws Cody & Dixie Higginbotham of Odessa, TX., Jeremy & Fayerene Hunt of Midland, TX., Donnie & Patsy Hunt of Abilene, TX., & many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
A graveside service for Jerry will be held in the Colorado City Cemetery on Wednesday, June 17th at 10 am with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating.
